Pumpkin Carving......2013

I didn't realize that I was so far behind in my scrapping' until I looked through my albums a couple of weeks ago and realized that I had not made any pages for holidays from 2013 except for Easter! So I am working on getting caught up on 2013 holiday pages.  (Disclaimer: Holidays are the only thing I try to stay current on and that's because of Studio J!!!)

So here are my Pumpkin Carvin' Pages (figured I better get these posted since we will be carving pumpkins in less than 2 weeks for this year!)

Distractions....

I have not posted in a couple of weeks because I simply needed some down time! I am always overwhelmed with the start of a new school year and then this semester I agreed to teach 2 (yes I know I am crazy) education classes for our local university.  I really do enjoy teaching and absolutely love helping students become teachers! All of this along with the mundane of everyday life ... well I just needed to get some distractions cleared away so I could focus.  Please understand, I do not think keeping my blog up to date and even scrapping are bad things ---- it's just that at times I know I have to simplify and those were things I could step away from for a little while.

While doing this, I also signed up to do the new Proverbs 31 Online Bible Study, The Best Yes by Lysa TerKeurst. It amazes me at how God prepares us for things before we even realize what He is doing! This Bible study is all about figuring out what things in life do we need to say yes to, no to and what things are the most important things that becomes our BEST YES answers!!!!

Here is an image from The Best Yes website that shows a quote form the book that really spoke to my heart:

My prayer is to have an underwhelmed schedule so that I can have an overwhelmed soul!!!!! I want an unbroken companionship with my Savior and I know that I can't or won't be able to accomplish either of these with too many distractions in my life.  So for right now, I am focusing on listening to God's voice so that I will know exactly what to say yes to and what to say no to!

I still plan on taking some time to create and when I do you know I will share that with you.  I am also hoping to share some of the insights I gain from this study ... I'm just not promising how often I will post right now!

If you are feeling overwhelmed and rushed all the time, I encourage you to take a deep breath and call out to God asking Him to show you what to take off your plate so that you are better prepared to see and know what He wants you to say yes to!

Time for A Challenge ... Color Dare #109

It's hard to believe that it has been 2 weeks since I posted anything and even harder to believe that we are already finished with 3 weeks of school.  Today was the first day in over a month that I did not leave my house at all and it has been wonderful!!! From sleeping in to not having to put make-up on and do my hair - I could get used to this!!! Best of all, I was able to enjoy a few hours of creativity with some scrappin' projects!

I will share some of what I did over the next few days, but tonight I want to share a card I made for the Color My Heart Color Dare #109 Challenge. This is my first time participating in this challenge and this week's color palette comes from CTMH's Confetti paper pack (I love these colors!)

Here is the card I made using the sunburst technique:

Recipe:

  • Lagoon Shimmer Tape
  • Pear Cardstock (Cloud was cut with Cricut Artiste)
  • Black Cardstock
  • Just Because Sentiment is from a promotional stamp set

Absolutely Blessed

I wanted to share another creation from the Scrappin' Retreat I was at last weekend.  This is a 12x12 layout that I created to go in a frame for my office. I love have pictures of my family and I desperately need to update my family frame.

I used some retired paper & stickease from one of my all-time favorites - Splendor. I also used our Artiste cartridge to cut the title. Very simple yet beautiful:

All Lit Up ... August Technique Blog Up

Welcome to the August edition of the CTMH Technique Blog Hop. This month we are featuring the technique, "All Lit Up" found on page 88 of the new Annual Inspirations.

If you are here from Haley's blog, then you are on the right track.

For my creation, I did a little bit of a different take on this technique.  Instead of using the glitter paper for the "All Lit Up" I chose to use two different colors, black & lagoon, of the shimmer trim (which looks just like strips of glitter paper).  I do have a confession that due to Open House and the first week of teachers being back at work, I did not get to completely finish my project.  But I am going to a scrapping; retreat this weekend and will be able to finish it and post the final product. Wooohoooo ---- I am at the retreat and I finished the card!!!!!!!

I saw this on Pinterest and have been wanting to try this technique for a while.

Simply take a 4 1/2" x 5 1/4" card base then using wash tape and shimmer trim place them in a diagonal manner.  You will see you don't have to worry about making it neat right now:

Then you simply fold all the edges under. You may need to trim around the corners.

Here is the base of the card after folding the edges in.

And here is the final product after adding the sentiment and a few licorice opaques for embellishments.

Supplies used: card base, Teal Shimmer Trim, Black Shimmer Trim, Lagoon Hearts Washi Tape, and Grey Polka Dot Washi Tape (retired), Cloud Nine Stamp Set (from a previous promotion)

Now you can hop on over to Debi's blog to see even more awesome All Lit Up creations!!!!!
