CTMH Technique Blog Hop - Simple Shadows

Welcome to....

This month there are 10 CTMH Consultants highlighting the "Simple Shadows" technique that is featured on page 102 of our Annual Inspirations Idea Book! This technique is all about creating a 3-D look with the use of shadows by layering your titles (or other image) with a lighter color on top and the same exact design in a dark grey or black to give it a shadow effect.  This technique is simple yet adds so much to a layout or card or whatever you are creating.

If you are here from Shirley's Blog then you are on the right track.

For my creation I wanted to show how you can use this same technique in Studio J.  Once you have a title using your dark color, you simply copy that title and paste. You will need to make sure the copied version has none selected for the background. Here is my layout from Studio J highlighting Simple Shadows:

I created this layout using the Jackson paper kit but changed the feature colors to Pear, Lagoon & Black to coordinate with his Monster theme birthday!
Here is the title up close so you can see the shadow-- I created the shadow first in black, then created a copy in lagoon!

Close up the 2 pages:

Here is another SJ creation with the Simple Shadows technique for the title. This time I used Blossom and I did a 3-layer title using black, then lagoon and finally pear on top.

I hope you have enjoyed my creations featuring Simple Shadows.  Before you head off to your next stop at Debi's Blog, please leave me some love in the comment section.

If you have never checked out Studio J, head on over to my website and stet playing!!! Studio J is totally free to use - you only pay when you decide to order the layouts!!!!!

CTMH Technique Blog Hop -- Call for Back-Up

Welcome to our June

CTMH Technique Blog Hop!!!

This month there are 1o CTMH Consultants highlighting the "Call for Back-Up" technique that is featured on page 80 of our Annual Inspirations Idea Book! This technique is all about creating a colorful and fun background using the negative space from punches or your cricut cartridges. Negative space refers to the paper that is left - not the actual cut-outs.  This technique is simple yet adds so much to a layout or card or whatever you are creating.

If you are here from Haley's blog, then you are on the right track.

For my creation this month, I created 2 cards using the negative space from my  CTMH cricut cartridge, Art Philosophy. Here is the negative space along with the banners and circles that I will save for another project!

I used the chocolate cardstock to create the pennant look and then backed each one with a strip of Jackson B&T for a birthday card for my son. I always have a hard time making masculine cards, but this made creating one very easy!!!

And then I used the circle negative space that I cut from the Chalk It Up B&T and used it with the chalkboard B&T from the same paper pack, added buttons inside each of the circles and voila - here it is:

I chose not to add a sentiment yet, that way I can quickly use this for whatever last minute card giving I need to do!!!!

Before you head off to Belinda's Blog to see another fabulous Call for Backup, leave me some love with a comment!

May Technique Bit Of Blot Blog Hop

Welcome to our

This month there are 12 CTMH Consultants highlighting the "A Bit of Blot" technique that is featured on page 55 of our Annual Inspirations Idea Book! This technique is all about creating a colorful and fun background with your favorite ink, a sponge dauber and a My Acrylix block!  This technique is simple yet adds so much to a layout or card or whatever you are creating.

If you are coming from Aggie's blog, then you are on the right track!

For my creation I made a card using our Blossom paper pack.  Here is the process I took:

1. Using my sponge dauber, I daubed Lagoon ink right on my block, the help my spritzing pen about 10 inches from it and applied a fine mist of water.

 This was my first try:

I didn't really like the way that one turned out, so I tried it again!

Now we are getting somewhere, so I added my Blossom B&T, my stamped image (sorry but I used a stamp set that is no longer available) and finished it off with shimmer ribbon trim & Lagoon colored sparkles!

As you can see I also added bits of blots to the edges of my stamped image!

Before you head off to Debi's blog to see another fabulous Bit of Blot creation, leave me some love with a comment!

CTMH Paper Pack Focus - Jackson

Thank you for joining me and several Heartfelt Sentiments team members as we showcase artwork using Close To My Heart's paper packet, "Jackson".  This paper packet is showcased in our Seasonal Expression 2 and will only be available for the next few months!!!!

I know you will like what you see as you "hop" through these amazing blogs!!!!

If you are here from Judy Faye's Blog then you are on the right track.  You can always visit Melissa's blog if you get lost along the way or to see a full list of all the participants.

This month I am once again using Studio J to feature our paper pack!!! Can you tell I love me some Studio J?!?! As a matter of fact, I worked on this one while traveling to West Palm Beach!!!! Now that's what I call convenient!

Another thing I love about Studio J -- you can change the colors of the B&T papers! Here is what the Jackson paper pack looks like originally:

And here is what I did with it in Studio J:

I wanted the papers to match the colors of Jase's banner so I changed the diamond B&T to have a Pear tint, the colonial white B&T to have a Lagoon tint and then used Lagoon & Black for the solid card stock. With Studio J, you can coordinate any paper pack to match any picture!

Thanks for hopping by and make sure you leave me some love with a comment if you like what you see!  Now you can hop on over to Debi's Blog for another fantastic Jackson creation!

Contact me or visit my website to order your own Jackson paper pack or to use Studio J!  Make sure you join my May Online Gathering when you place your order for a chance to receive a gift from me!

Soar Like an Eagle

The other morning, I read a devotion from Girlfriends in God based on Isaiah 40:31: -

The devotion was about how we get so overwhelmed with our schedules and day to day stuff that happens. Yet if we would simply make time with God a priority on our daily agenda, then we would be overcomers and not overwhelmed. Here is an excerpt from the devotion:

Am I willing to find my worth in the presence of God instead of in the approval of others?
Am I willing to set aside my to-do list in order to seek God?
Am I willing to surrender my calendar to Him?
Am I willing to change my plans during the day when I sense Him leading me in a different direction?
What is urgent is not always what is most important. To keep from being overwhelmed, we must surrender every minute of every day to God, asking Him to give us discernment and wisdom about where to invest our time.
If we want to run the race for an audience of One, we have to be willing to spend time alone with God, preparing for that race. Learning to wait on God instead of rushing headlong into the day, hoping and praying that God blesses our efforts, will radically change the way we live. When we make Him our first priority, every other priority will line up, and everything else will fall into place. A life of purpose will replace that frantic life filled with stress and anxiety. God will renew our strength. We will soar on wings like eagles; we will run and not grow weary, we will walk and not be faint. We will be overcomers!
Click here to read the whole passage.

So after reading the devotion and realizing God was speaking to me very loudly, I took the verse and mapped it. (Meaning that I broke down the difference phrases and words looking at definitions as well as deeper meanings). In doing that, this is some of the things I learned:
  • but those who hope in the Lord - placing all my trust in God - Jehovah the one true God / waiting on HIM / focusing on HIM
  • renew their strength - fresh dose of strength (mentally & physically)
  • soar on wings like eagles --- to soar - act of gliding while maintaining altitude; when an eagle is soaring then it is not having to expend all his energy flapping his wings. It also allows the eagle to remain at a constant altitude - no sinking down, no getting wore out, soaring carries an eagle for a long distance
  • run and not grow weary, walk and not faint - will not get tired, exhausted, worn out, impatient, dissatisfied, feeble, weak
So what does this mean? It means that when I place my trust in God - the creator of all things, my Elohim, my El Shaddai, my Addonai - when my focus is on HIM, then my strength will be renewed - I will have a fresh dose of energy - I will be uplifted! Regardess of the days obstacles or agenda or circumstances, I can know without a doubt, that I can soar above all the things that seem to come flying at me at full force.  And what’s great about soaring is that it takes a lot less energy than me trying to ‘flap’ my way around and dodge all the flying bullets & debris!!! When I soar, I will not become tired or dissatisfied or impatient or even feeble. Taking the time to make my relationship with God as my first priority will make the rest of my day so much better!

Father, I want to soar like an eagle! I am tired of flapping around always exhausted, overwhelmed and even dissatisfied at times.  Lord, I want my strength to be renewed - a fresh dose of energy! I want my hope to be in You and only You! Help me to make my time with You the most important part of my day! In Jesus Name, Amen
