Are You Facing A Wilderness?

God's word is so amazing!  As many times as I have read and even heard preached the story of Moses leading the Isrealites across the Red Sea and through the wilderness, I have never thought about what Exodus 13:17 truly says.  I am doing a Bible study by Priscilla Shirer right now called One in a Million.  Today's session focused on this verse: "Now when Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not lead them by the way out of the land of the Philistines, even though it was near; for God said, 'The people might change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.'"

Did you catch that?  God chose the wilderness path for them.  Look at the map below.

It says in Ex. 13: 20, It says "After leaving Succoth they camped at Etham on the edge of the desert."  Now get this, They were going to Canaan.  It would have been much closer for them to go Northeast and be there.  Priscilla brought out that that journey would have only taken about 30 days.  But God had a different plan in place for them.  In verse 17, it says God did not lead them that way.  He deliberately chose the wiilderness path for them.

And that is exactly what God does with us sometimes.  He knows that the only way we will ever tap into our full potential with Him is by way of the wilderness.  As Priscilla points out, "There are some things we don't know about ourselves until we are put in a position where we have to see God's power working through us."  And that's what a wilderness will do --- allow us to see God working through us and revealing to us His divine potential that we never knew was there. If God leads us to the wilderness, we don't need to fight it or as I normally try to do, fix it.  All He wants us to do is yield to it and follow Him through every step of that wilderness!

I am so thankful I serve an AWESOME GOD who knows the path I need to take.  My pray is that I have a holy courage and holy boldness to follow Him on that path!!!!
