Summer Scrapping & Dry - Erase Board

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am still here!  The month of August is always crazy, crazy, crazy for me.  The first week I was in NC with our youth group (see previous posts) and then last week we had professional development at work with our teachers coming back (unofficially).  Then this week, pre-planning starts and then the following week, students are back.  It seems like after 17 years in education, I would get used to the month of August -- but it still completley wipes me out.

Because of this craziness, I am not doing any crops or workshops this month; however, I am in the process of planning for some September & October events including workshops, technique classes, and a Studio J event. So stay tuned!!!!

I do have one picture of a project I completed at the end of July.  My daughter wanted a large dry erase board for her new apartment in New Port Richie, so I created her the 18" x 24" dry-erase board pictured below:

Materials:
3 - 12 x 12 New England Ivy Textured Cardstock
1 - Colonial White Cardstock
1 - CocoaCardstock
1 - B&T from Felicity Kit
2 - B&T from Grace Paper Pack

New England Ivy Ink
Misc. Embellies
Field Trip Alphabet Stamps
1 - 18" x 24" Poster Frame

**All materials are CTMH other than poster frame.

How Do I Love Thee?

The other day I was thinking about how much God loves me and for some reason the words of the famous poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning came to my mind. Here are the first two lines:

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

As I was thinking of that, it was like I was hearing the voice of God speak to me. “Tonya, How do I love you, let me count the ways. I love you as far as the east is from the west and deeper than any sea there is.” Then I started thinking of all the ways He tells me everyday how much He truly loves me. So I thought I would start a list of the ways I hear Him whisper and sometimes even shouts His love to me. Some of the ones listed are of course the most obvious, but then I started getting very specific.

1. JESUS – God gave His only Son for my sins

2. Creation – God created heaven and earth for me

3. Family – God gave me an amazing family

4. Friends – I am blessed to have godly friends that I am surrounded by

5. Sunrises & Sunsets – God paints a fresh painting for me every morning & evening

6. Flowers – Have you ever noticed that there are no two flowers that are the same

7. A conversation with Jordan coming home from church --- it was a very deep spiritual discussion and my heart was overflowing

8. Answered prayer – at camp I specifically prayed for God to allow me to be in the spiritual birthing room and within 2 hours I had the privilege of leading Loran to Christ!

9. God placing me in a spirit filled fellowship and using me in His ministry

10. His Word & Devotions – He always knows exactly what I need when I need it and either through His word or devotions He speaks to me

This is just the beginning --- I now challenge you to listen for how God is telling you how He loves you and let Him count the ways. I would love for us to start a running list here and let’s see how many different ways we hear Him tell us He loves us!

The Cave

As I shared in the last post, on Wednesday of last week we got to experience a hike up a mountain and into a 'cave'.  The hike up mountain was not too bad as there was a rope to help us pull ourselves up the steepest incline as well as hand guides to help us in other difficult areas.  Then when we got to the cave, Bro. Bill (the owner of Icthus Ministries) explained to us how we would be going into the cave and how we could not talk loudly at all and that for a 18 people there were only 3 flashlights, so it was very important that we communicate properly as well as pay attention.  I must say going into the cave for me was a bit scary but at the same time it was exciting.  After getting all the way to the back of the cave, he had us all sit down and then told us to turn out all the flashlights for  1 minute. It was so dark you could not even see the outline of your hand in front of your face.  It was so quiet and so dark.... Then he turned on a very small flashlight and it lit up our immediate surrounding.  He was talking to us about how Hell is going to be even darker than what we just experienced as well as constant crying, screaming, gnashing of teeth and just an eternity of pure misery.  But then he also reminded us of how Jesus is our light and how our light can permeate that utter darkness.  As I was sitting there I was thinking at how that if one little light can help us see our immediate next step in our Christian walk, how much brighter would our walks be if we shone our lights together!

Then as we were coming out of the cave, our group got to experience something that the other tow groups didn't get to experience ---- we got caught in a storm!  Coming down the mountain with rainy weather made the mountain extremely difficult and much more of a challenge for us.  Several of us (including me) slipped and fell, but there was always someone else right there to help us out.  Later that day as I was thinking about our adventure, I realized that our hiking down the mountain was no different than our daily walk with Christ.  Our journey became much more dangerous just because of one element being thrown into the mix.  This is just like what Satan does to us, he throws many elements our way to cause us to stumble; however, as fellow Christians, we need to always be there to help each other from slipping and when we do, they can help us to  stand back up!!!
This was the beginning of our hike!

Blessings of Summer Camp

WOW! I do not even know where to begin to describe the amazing week I just experienced in Bryson City, NC. I was blessed to be a part of a group of 49 youth and leaders from Francis Baptist Church going on a summer mission trip. We left last Sunday (Aug 1) at 4:30 AM and arrived at Ichthus Ministries Camp in Bryson City around 8:00 PM! Let's just say it was quite an adventure on the ride up there. Satan was throwing many darts at us for the first two days from having the bus's AC not work properly, having several of our youth feeling bad on Sunday night and Monday morning and even having one of the boy break his arm during the land clearing mission. But we didn't give up – we just started praying more and more at every opportunity. We were supposed to have 3 days of work that we were going to do, but due to several obstacles thrown at us and after lots of prayer we decided that the most important mission for us this week was to focus on each other and learn how to have a servant's heart towards fellow brothers and sisters! When we made that decision, God started blessing tremendously!

We would start our day (after breakfast) with some camp songs --- Fruit of the Spirit, King of Me, & Itty-Bitty Seeds, and then we would have some teaching from God's Word. I had the privilege of teaching on two of the mornings, and I can honestly say that I have never experienced the power of the Holy Spirit on me as strong as He was while I was teaching this past week. It was truly indescribable!!!!

Then after our daytime adventures, we would head to the barn (The Shack) for praise & worship.
We sang our hearts out then one of the men leaders brought a message each night. On Tuesday, Bro. Mike brought the message, then during the invitation he encouraged us to truly turn all of our needs to God. One of my needs was for God to allow me to be in the spiritual birthing room this week with someone as they accept Jesus as their Savior. When we got back to the camp that evening, one of the young ladies and I were talking and she told me she had never been saved ---I thought - "Hallelujah, God is about to answer my prayer!" And answer it He did – I had the great blessing and privilege of being in the spiritual birthing room as she prayed and asked Jesus to be her Savior --- oh what a blessing!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that was just the beginning; we ended up with 13 accepting Christ as their Savior and 7 rededications! Our God is so good!!!!!

We also had team building activities going all week. One of the challenges was for each youth to talk with another person (youth, leader or one of the smaller kids that were with us) that they did not know very well and then the next morning be prepared to share something new about that person. Then each day they had to partner up with a new person. When I first presented this to them, I wasn't sure how they were going to respond, but to my surprise, they ran with it and absolutely loved it. We learned so much about each other and we saw cliques disappear and one solid group form. It was such a blessing!

At the camp we had 3 amazing counselors that worked with us and on Wednesday we split up into three groups and focused on how teamwork requires 3 C's and a big E --- Communication, Cooperation, Concentration and Encouragement. Each group had two very difficult tasks to complete that could only be completed through teamwork. The whole time they were working on the task, they were reminded of the three C's & big E as well as relating to the task to our daily walk with Christ. I am glad to say that all three groups completed both tasks successfully. Then the third event that each group did was hiking up a mountain and then going into a cave (it was actually an old gold mine).

We also went white-water rafting as well as spent the day in Cherokee.

I am still amazed at how God allowed me to be a part of such an amazing week and used me in the way He did. I pray that we all remember that our LORD God, our Jesus, our Savior, our King is a 24/7 God and that no matter where we are He is with us and we can server Him here just like we did there.
