Becoming a Woman of Influence!

What a blessing I have had this weekend.  Friday night and Saturday I was attended a women's spiritual life retreat sponsored by one of our local churches.  I had the privilege of attending this with my mom, 2 sisters, daughter-in-law and one of my nieces along with several friends.  The theme of this retreat was "Becoming A Woman of Influence." Let me just say ---- wow! God showed up and He spoke directly to my heart.

On Friday night, it was a room full of sisters laughing hysterically and learning all about how to be a woman of influence from the outside by being fashionably modest from fashion expert, Shari Braendel. (Our physical appearance is the first gate post to others seeing us and wanting to know what makes us different.) Then on Saturday - -we dug into the word with MaryBeth Whalen,  and then Shari shared her amazing testimony with us.

Here are a few of the notes I took from the messages today:

This set of notes is from MaryBeth's 1st message:
We are women of influence and we need to be mirrors for God! In order to do that God must be our mirror.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 He hath made everything beautiful in its time: also he hath set eternity in their heart, yet so that man cannot find out the work that God hath done from the beginning even to the end.

There are 6 points of intersection that we can learn from David & Moses

1. They were something special & God set them apart for a very specific reason - Ex 2:2 / 1 Sam 16:12 (God loves to pick the least likely); God has a plan and has a purpose for us to be set apart for Him.
I need to ask myself,  "What has He set me apart for?"

2. A time of preparation - a desert time & a time in the king's court - 1 Sam 17 --- During David's desert time he killed a bear and a lion with his bare hands and this allowed him to trust God completely when he faced Goliath. God is always right there when we are in the desert preparing us for something else. 1 Sam 17:39 Then there are times we are in the King's court and this is where we bask in His presence and allow Him to use us!

3. They both fought giants - We all have some kind of giant that we will have to fight. When we fight our giants we must remember that He is right there to fight them with us. Ex 38:11 - God let's us face giants at times so His purpose can be seen!!! Our giants help us to encourage others!

4. Experience grace & forgiveness - God does not edit the ugly parts of the Bible - they are there to encourage and help us.

5. They lived out the calling God placed on their hearts. We can live our calling but we must truly tune into Him in order to know that plan.

6. They experienced the truth we all need to learn. This is the same truth we all need to learn - God is enough!!!!!!!

These are from MaryBeth's second message:

1 Corinthians 3:6 I planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

In the New Testament, God used 2 men to grow His church - they were seeds of influence - Saul & Simon - they didn't start out that way but God brought them there.

Simon denied Christ 3 times and was restored 3 times!  (Matt 26:30-35 / Matt 16:15-23) Simon was later called Peter --- Simon means shifty but Peter means rock! Peter became an influential man of God because he truly embraced the truth that Jesus is the Son of the living God (v. 15-16)

Saul - Acts 7:58. Saul was a decision maker in the stoning of Stephen - Saul gave approval. However, before he was stoned, Stephen gave a great sermon of how great Christ is. Then God used these words on the road to Damascus to bring Saul to his knees - - Saul met Jesus!!!
Saul means tall but Paul means small - Jesus changed him drastically. He was no longer 'tall' being in charge but now he was 'small' letting God be in charge! He realized he was nothing without God!!!

These men had a dramatic encounter with God!  We all must have an encounter with God that makes us realize and trust that GOD is enough!!!!!

I am so thankful for this retreat and for God showing up and ministering to my heart this weekend.  I hope you can make some sense out of my notes. Thank you for letting me share this with you!

What Brings You Delight?

Over the past few weeks, I have been reading Made to Crave by Lysa Terkeurst which has been challenging me to crave God more than I crave anything else.  So when I saw that Patter's ABC Scripture Challenge this week was Delight, I really felt God speaking to me.  I encourage you to click on the link above and read her post.  So I must ask myself, what brings me delight? What am I craving more than anything that gives me great pleasure? If my answer to either of the questions is anything other than God, then my priorities are not in order!

The verse I chose for my 6x6 page this week is Psalm 37:4 - "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." WOW! He is telling me that if I will crave Him more than anything else --- if I will let Him give me great pleasure - then He will grant me the desires of my heart!

(I used Whoops-A-Daisy (retired) paper, Hydrangea & Ocean Ink, Hydrangea Ribbon, & White embellishments.  All products are from CTMH. )

Show Us Your Hearts!

The second challenge this month at H2H Challenges was for us to showcase our hearts!  Our project needed to have a heart(s) on it.  I know that most people are posting Valentine cards or artwork, but unfortunately this month has been so crazy for me I had to buy my hubby a card. I know that is such a shameful thing for a scrapper to do!!! So for my challenge this time a thank you card will have to do. I am showcasing a card using Magnifique paper.

I love this paper pack -- I think it is definitely on my Top 10 list of favorites!

Recipe:
  • Magnifique WOTG kit
  • Pacifica Ink
  • Sky Ink
  • Basic Mini Medleys

ABC Scripture Challenge - 'C'

C is for CONFIDENCE!

When I read the post from Patter's ABC Scripture Challenge, I was excited to see the word Confidence.  When I think of the word confidence I think of being bold and without fear.  Then I thought of one of my favorite songs, Mercy Seat. I love knowing that the grace of God allows me to confidently run to the throne of my God, my Lord, my Savior, without fear, and know that His blood will cover my healing.

So for the challenge this week I used Hebrews 4:16 "Let us then approach the throne of grace with CONFIDENCE so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." I cannot even begin to count the times I have run boldly to that throne!  I also included the lyrics to the song in my project and I am also including them at the bottom of this post.  If you have never heard this song, I challenge you to click here to listen.

The lyrics to the song on are on the inside.
I kept this one very simple because I want the focus of this to be the message of the verse and the song.  I used some older CTMH products (Emporium Creative Basics, Twilight & Cocoa Cardstock, Connections Stamp Set, Foundry Flourishes, Flowers and Cocoa Opaques)

Mercy Seat (Words by Don Moen)
In the darkness
Where everything is unknown
I face the power of sin on my own
I did not know of a place I could go
Where I could find a way to
Heal my wounded soul.

He said that I could come into
His presence without fear
Into the holy place where
His mercy hovers near

I'm runnin' I'm runnin'
I'm runnin' to the mercy seat
Where Jesus is callin' he said
His grace would cover me
His blood will flow freely
It will provide the healin'
Come runnin' to the mercy seat
I'm runnin; to the mercy seat.

Are you livin' where hope has not been?
You're lost in the curse of a
Lifetime of sin
Lovely illusions they never
Come true I know where there's a place
Of mercy for you
He said that you could come into his
Presence without fear
Into this holy place
Where his presence hovers near.

Come runnin' come runnin'
Come runnin' to the mercy seat
Where Jesus is callin' he said his
Grace would cover you. His blood
Will flow freely it will provide the healin'
Come runnin' to the mercy seat
I'm runnin' to the mercy seat
He said that you could come into his presence
Without fear into the holy place
Where his mercy hovers near
