A Time of Reflection

As we get ready to end 2012 and begin 2013 I have been doing a lot of reflecting over this last year and looking back at what I had set for goals last January as well as the many Januarys in my past.  This reflection time has brought many emotions .. mostly feelings of disappointment and guilt over not  following through!  I feel like a broken record ... pouring my heart out to God asking for His forgiveness for failing so miserably again, for not being obedient in many ways, and the list goes on.  However, I hear Him speak to my heart telling me to not be discouraged or dismayed but just simply to keep on striving to be obedient to His plan for my life. His love for me is not dependent on my actions --- He loves me simply because He is God and that's what He does.  His love for me will always remain the same; however, I know He must be disappointed in my complacency -- as a matter of fact He tells us that complacency makes Him want to vomit.  And that is exactly where I have gotten - comfortable in my life and my spiritual walk and I no longer want comfortable!!!! I want to be on fire for my God - always listening for His voice - always seeking to know where He is leading me - always looking for ways to bring Him glory & honor!

So for 2013 I am going to hold onto the following verses that our pastor shared this morning.

Philippians 3: 12-14  12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

I am going to strive for the goal that Christ has set for me and that is simply to put Him first in everything I do - from my family to my health to my finances to my work and most of all my time.  God tells us in Hosea 10: 12 that it is time to seek Him and break up the unplowed ground.  That unplowed ground is my idle mind - my complacency.  God wants my everything - all of my heart, all of my soul & all of my mind to be focused on Him.

How am I going to do this you may be asking - I don't know exactly. However, I am starting with complete surrender and a true desire to change and be the person God created me to be.  I know that the most important thing I must work on is being in HIS word more - not just snacking on it here and there - but truly devouring it - letting it feed me like never before! My goal is to spend more time looking in HIS face than I spend on Facebook! I am praying for God to reveal Himself to me and use me to reach others. I am fervently praying for a renewed spirit and a complete return to my first love with Jesus my precious Savior. When I do this - when I make God the one and only LORD of my life and I become second --- I truly believe that everything else will fall into place.

Praying for the most amazing year ever as I walk hand in hand with my Jesus!!!!

December Daily ... 12/1/2012

I am planning on doing a December Daily album this year (my first attempt).  I know that I will not be able to create a page everyday so I thought I would create 3 or 4 posts each week then I can come back here and use the info to create my album. Since this is my first attempt at this we shall see what happens.....

Dec. 1
Today we decorated our tree and the inside of the house.  It's so different now the kids are older so we decorated in shifts.  Jordan helped me this morning then Britt hung hers & Katie's ornaments when she cam home this afternoon. I love decorating for Christmas:

Jordan hanging his & Jake's ornaments along with the family ones!

Britt adding hers & Katie's to the tree!
The finished product!
This is the oldest of several Nativity scenes we have around the house.  I think this one is at least 15 years old.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

As I reflect on all I have to be thankful for today, I am overwhelmed with the blessings of my life.

  • To begin with my salvation -- I am so grateful that I serve a living God that loves me unconditionally and sent His son to die for my sins! I am thankful that when my perfect God looks at me He sees the blood of Jesus covering all my sins! I have been REDEEMED!
  • I am very thankful for my family --- my husband, children (and their significant others), our granddaughter, my parents, my in-laws, my sisters & brothers, nieces and nephews, & grandparents that are in heaven cheering me on in life.
  • My church & church family --- I am so blessed to be a part of Francis Baptist Church!!!
  • My flip-flop friends --- no matter where life takes us we are there for each other through it all  - the good, the bad, the ugly, the laughs & the tears!
  • Unashamed Youth Ministries & Youth Leaders -- what a blessing to serve God with such amazing friends!!!!
  • My work family -what a blessing to work daily with godly co-workers!!!
  • My home -- it may not be the best and it may be getting old - but it is HOME!!!!
  • My health -- I have been blessed with great health - I might be getting old but I'm still going strong everyday!
  • Miracles --- we have seen our share of miracles this year -starting with the scare we had with Olivia (my great-niece) when she was born & Dad's fall that caused brain damage (all in the same day) and now we have another miracle with Dad - even though he has congestive heart failure and a defibrillator he has pulled through once again! Mom has had several ups & downs this year with her health but we have them here with us and that's what matters - -I can call and talk to them and I see them 3 or 4 times a week.
I could keep on going but I have to stop somewhere -- needless to say -- I truly have so much to be thankful for!!!!!!!!

Birthday Banner

Last Friday night I got together with a few of my girls for some much needed croppin' time!!!! We didn't get a lot of projects completed but we sure did have a blast just being together! You can check out a card that my friend Heather created by clicking here to visit her blog.

Now I would like to share the banner that I worked one with one of my other scrappin' girls, Nickie.  She wanted me to help her make a banner for her son's first birthday party - so after 6 hours and several ideas later, this is what we came up with:

Believe it or not, it took all 5 of us sharing ideas and suggestions before we had a finished product -- but that's the best part about croppin' with your friends!!!!

Supplies Used:

  • CTMH Art Philosophy Cartridge (banner shapes and letters)
  • The pumpkin and owl were made from two different cricut cartridges -- (sorry I can't remember which ones)
  • Old CTMH ribbon on the pumpkin stems
  • The owls eyes are wooden buttons with black opaque adhesives

I'm Still Here!!!!

It's been over 2 months since I have posted anything so I thought I would give a quick update and post a few pictures. We had a very busy but wonderful summer - from vacation to summer camp to getting our youngest son ready for his senior year!!! We are n ow going into the 6th week of school, fall has started and football is here - so I think I can settle back into a routine and get some scrappin' done.  I was able to create a banner and make some cards over the summer I just haven;t had time to blog about them until now.

Here is a banner I made for a baby shower:

All supplies from CTMH unless otherwise noted:

  • Art Philosophy Cartridge
  • Pearl Opaque Adhesives
  • Sweet Leaf & Blush Cardstock
  • White Daisy Crocheted Flowers (retired)
  • Flowers spritzed with sweet leaf & blush reinker and pearl paint
  • Sweet Leaf & Blush Ribbon
  • Paisley print B&T (from Michael's)
Here are some cards I made using all retired products - I finally used a set of the Simply Snapshots (Boom-Di-Ada) album pages to make these cards:

I was able to create these 12 cards in less than 1 hour!  I have 2 more sets of the simply snapshots --- maybe I can make some card sets for gifts!!!

July Technique Hop ... Perfect Clusters

Welcome to our Technique Blog Hop!  This month there are several of us highlighting the Perfect Clusters as shown on page 96 in the Spring/Summer 2012 Idea Book!  This blog hop is a great big circle so you can start wherever you want and continue through to see all the fabulous artwork incorporating this technique.  If you would like to start from the beginning, please visit Debi B's Blog .  While there you will also find a listing of all participants and their blog addresses if you should get lost or want to reference a blog along the way.

If you are coming from Ann Maire's Blog, you are on the right track!

For my project that highlights this technique, I created an 8x8 layout for a shadow box.  This picture is of my precious Tenley from her 1st birthday photo shoot.  I love the flower field and all the colors in her tutu, so I decided to not use B&T paper and simply use cardstock and embellishments.  For this technique I used the perfect cluster of embellishments by using 2 different flowers, flourish sparkels, and a stamped sentiment.

Here is the finished product:

Supplies: CTMH --- Gypsy cardstock, Sunflower cardstock, Flourish Embellishment,  Sunflower flower,  Sparkles,  Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge, Bling button & pin, Ribbon, You Hold the Key to My Heart stamp set (retired)
Non-CTMH - Purple flower
You can go ahead and continue on with the hop by visiting Wendy's blog, or keep reading for details on how I used this technique in my layout.

I started out by choosing sunflower and gypsy cardstock to match the flowers in the picture.  I had a flower from my local scrappin' store that matched the gypsy color but I didn't have a sunflower color one, so I decided to use my re-inkers and make one.  Here is how I did that:

I created a 'sunflower' color by using my alcohol, water, sunny yellow re-inker, orange re-inker and pearl paint.  It was an almost exact match.
White flower before adding mist.
Finished sunflower color
After getting my flower colored just right, I simply put the layout together and perfectly clustered the embellishments:

Then I placed the layout in a black shadow box which will be in my office!!!!

Now visit Wendy's blog to continue on with the hop!!!!

Happy 10th Anniversary!!!

June 21, 2002 - I married my best friend, gained 2 amazing daughters and gave my sons a wonderful 'dad'! This year we celebrated our 10th anniversary with a vacation to the New England area.

On Tuesday June 19th we flew into Boston, Ma and explored the Freedom Trail. It was a great reminder of all that our fore-fathers went through to make sure we have the freedoms that we take for granted everyday. Then on Wednesday, we explored the state of New Hampshire and visited Ruggles Mine - the oldest mica mine in the world.  On Wednesday evening, I took my husband to Fenway Park to see his Red Sox and we sat right next to the Green Monster and saw Big Papi (David Ortiz) hit a grand slam!!! My hubby was like a little boy -- he was so excited to be there.  Then on Thursday, our anniversary, we drove up the East Coast of Maine and ate a quaint little restaurant on a  wharf and had fresh Maine lobster -- it was soooo good!!!!!!!  On Friday we drove up to Vermont to see covered bridges and also went to a regional tournament for Curling (as in the Olympic sport).  And finally on Saturday we went to the Red Arrow Cafe (as seen on Food Network's Diners, Drive-In's & Dives) before heading back to Boston to fly home.  Here are a few pictures of some of the highlights of our trips:

One of my favorite parts of our vacation was being able to see even more of God's beautiful handiwork - the mountains and the ocean are so breath-taking and I pray that I never grow tired of seeing their beauty!!!!
