1 Peter 5:7-8 --- M2C Blog Hop #2

This week's verse for the Made to Crave Bible Study that I am doing is 1 Perter 5:7-8a and this week I am choosing to unpack this verse for this blog hop.  Here is a picture of my verse mapping:

Although the study is only focusing on the first part of verse 8, I included the entire verse for my verse-mapping (if you want to read more about verse mapping, check out this blog post by Heather Bleier).

1 Peter 5:7-8
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Youradversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

After digging into this verse, this is what God laid on my heart:

Throwing all my uneasiness & concerns on JESUS, the one who cares for me more than anyone does, so that I can be alert, focused and on guard because the enemy (satan) is always looking for prey to pounce on me to destroy me.

WOW -- whether those uneasy feelings are from food struggles, financial issues, work concerns, family matters, emotional distress ... whatever ... I can throw all of those on my JESUS!!! And this week I have a lot to throw on Him, but if I don't I will not be able to protect myself from the enemy! When my mind is cluttered with anxieties, I cannot be alert, focused & on guard!

I am so thankful that my Jesus can carry the weight on my fears and worries! What are you carrying around that you need to cast on Jesus?

**A special shout-out to Mandee for the info on the Notability app that I used to map my verse!!!!!

M2C Blog Hop .... #Empowered

This week for the Made to Crave (M2C) blog hop I am posting about the word EMPOWERED! To begin with I want to look at the definition of empowered -- to give power to and some synonyms for this word is qualify, enable, authorize. Now let's look at the following verse:

Ephesians 3:20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.

So what is this power at work within us. This power is the same power that performed miracles and wonders; it's the same power that caused the Red Sea to split; it's the same power that enabled Abraham to be obedient to God when He told him to sacrifice his son; it's same power that raised Jesus from the dead -- it's the power of the Holy Spirit!!!! And the moment of my salvation, this power immediately came all over me and in me. So what does this do --- it says in this verse, that this power is what enables God to do abundantly far more than I could ever ask or even dream! I am empowered with this amazing power -- I am enabled - qualified - authorized!!!!

I am crying out to God to help me to be satisfied with healthy choices, to be content with the things I have, and to CRAVE HIM above all else. According to this verse and the fact that I am EMPOWERED means that God is wanting to do abundantly more with my health, my things, & my cravings than I could ever imagine!!!! I will definitely take that!

Craving God

Today,  I started the Made to Crave Online Bible Study hosted by P31 Ministries.  This Bible study is about satisfying our deepest desire with God, not food (or whatever you crave -- money, bad relationships, drugs, or whatever it is that you spend the majority of your time thinking about).

One of our first optional tasks was to participate in the M2C Blog Hop. One of the topics was to tell you why I am doing this study and to invite you join. So here is my why:

I have a confession - this is the 3rd time doing this study, but I truly believe this time is going to be different for several reasons.

  • God is working on my heart this year about embracing FREEDOM and this vicious cycle of weight obsession is definitely something I need to be free of.
  • I know that it is imperative that I start making better choices when it comes to my health.
  • I was created to crave God and I am tired of trying to satisfy that craving with other things!
  • I need to be spiritually fit as well as physically fit.
  • God is calling me to do this and I need to be obedient to His calling.
I honestly do not have a number in mind for the amount of weight I want to loose. My focus is more on the spiritual side and once I get spiritually fit, whatever happens with the number on the scale is simply an added bonus. I am excited to see where God is going to lead me and how He is going to speak to my heart over the next 6 weeks.

You can read about the study by clicking here.

By the way, I am hosting a small group page on Facebook for some of my close friends and I created the following cover picture (using PicMonkey) for our group:

I will be posting weekly as part of the blog hop for this study, so stay tuned!!!!

Technique Tuesday #2

This week I am going to share one of my favorite techniques.  I am sure most of yo know about this technique but it never hurts to be reminded of an oldie!!!!

Edge Distressing

This was created using the "direct" method -- simply applying ink all around the edges directly from the ink pad.  This method is more free & random. Personally this is my favorite way to edge distress -- its also the quickest!

This is the 'sponge' method.  You ink the sponge up , then swipe the edges with the sponge. This method allows for a more controlled and even look.
There are also many other ways use can distress your edges --- sandpaper, scissors, edge distressed, stipple brush, spritz pen, and so on.  For me, distressing the edges gives the project a finished look and adds just a touch of pizazz!!!!!

Tune in next week for another technique or tutorial!!!!

Cloud Nine Cards

While my hubby & son were cheering and yelling and screaming last Monday night during the National Championship football game I made some of the cards from the Cloud Nine card kit. It has been a while since I sat down and simply followed the guidelines of one of CTMH's kit instructions and I realized once again why I love being a part of this company! CTMH truly makes things easy, simple & fast.  I made the following 8 cards in about 1 hour (and for those of you who know me, you know this is super fast for me!!!) I did have to use a different B&T paper because I used the one from the kit in a Christmas gift. However, another great thing about CTMH is that so many of their paper packs can be coordinated with each other!

Remember this kit is only available through the month of January!!! To find out how you can get your kit, click here!

Welcome to the World

There are not many words needed for this post as the following picture will be enough to describe my joy! Help me welcome my new grandson to the world!!!

I used Studio J to create this quick birth announcement! I used the "Babycakes" kit with the "No Limits" layout. This is a 4 x 8 announcement so I can get 8 of them on a 2 page layout - which comes out to less than $1 per card.  Contact me for more details on how you can create your very own announcements (baby, graduation, engagement, etc) as well as photo cards!

TBT (Throwback Thursday)

Every Thursday I am going to be posting a TBT picture.  Some weeks this may be a layout that I have worked on but never finished and some weeks will simply be a photo of an older completed layout.  I always enjoy going back through ad looking through my scrapbooks, so this is just another way of sharing my memories.

This week I am going to start with a layout of our first family vacation after my husband & I got married. The vacation was in July 2002!!!

The Power of God's Word!

So this morning I had the privilege of teaching our youth Sunday school class and the lesson today was titles "How Did We Get the Bible?"  When I started studying for the lesson, I noticed that our key verse was one of my favorites that I had studied many times --

All scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of god may be complete, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17

From previous studies I have focused on the fact that God inspired the scriptures and His word was to be used for teaching, showing us when we're wrong & correcting us.  But as I was studying I realized there is so much more to this verse as well as some facts about the preservation of the Bible.

First of all, let's look at the word inspired - this is from the Greek word, theopneustos.  If we look at the meaning of this word we can see 'theo' and 'pneustos'. Theo is God & pneustos is breathe or breathed and is the same word that is used in Genesis to describe how God breathed life into Adam. So it literally means "God breathed" as well as "life".  So now look at the verse again --- all Scripture is "God breathed" --- God breathed life into every scripture -- every word!!!! It does not say that God inspired writers - it says He inspired the WORDS! He breathed the words! This was exciting to me because for the first time I realized that every word in my Bible has God's breath on it - it has His power - His life!

Now let's continue with this thought as we read more --- all Scripture is also profitable. If something's profitable that means it has value, a gain, an advantage! And it is profitable in teaching me, correcting me, training me ---- so that I will be complete - ready - prepared to do whatever He places in my path! WOW!!!!

Not only did we look at the beauty and the power of this verse, but we also looked at how the actual words in the book has been passed down for thousands of years with over 99% accuracy!!! We looked at several facts about the Bible:

  • Written over a 1600 year time span
  • Written by 40 different authors
  • There are more than 168,000 Bibles sold or given away each day in the U.S. alone
  • There are more than 3,200 verses with fulfilled prophecy within the Bible itself or since the Bible was written
  • Bible has been translated in more than 1,200 languages
Then we looked at the evidence of the Old Testament from the Dead Sea Scrolls (you can read about this here.) Here is a quick summary of this fascinating info --- in 1948, some teenage shepherds were tending their flocks when one of them tossed a rock into a cave and heard a shatter.  Long story short, they hit a clay jar that contained one of the manuscripts of one of the OT books.  (To be honest, I never really thought about what this really means, I mean I had heard about the Dead Sea Scrolls but never really took the time to understand the importance of them. ) So to begin understanding this, you must first realize what a manuscript is.  We will use Moses as an example - Moses wrote the first 5 books of the OT during the 40 years in the wilderness and presented it to the priests for them to store in the Ark of the Covenant. These were the original manuscripts, but over time they became worn so scribes would very painstakingly write a new manuscript by copying word for word from the old manuscript --- it even explained that they would take such care with this even the spacing between letters and words were exact.  Once a new manuscript was finished, they would place the old ones in clay jars and bury them for preservation.  Well these buried clay jars were what was discovered that day by those young shepherds. Now get this, the manuscripts that were discovered are over 99% accurate with what we have today in our Bibles and every book of the OT was found with the exception of Esther!

Now I don't know about you, but for me finding jars with manuscripts that were over 2,000 years old that shows over 99% accuracy with what we have in our Bibles gives us the why we can believe without a doubt that ALL SCRIPTURE is GOD BREATHED!!!!!!  And yet, we take His Word for granted on a daily basis.  May we all grasp this power and truly let His word complete us and equip us for everything He has planned for us!

I encourage you to do your own research on this if you have any doubts at all about the validity or the POWER of God's Word!
