God's Word & A Creative Display

I am excited to be a part of another Proverbs 31 Online Bible Study & Blog Hop. The study we are doing this time is "Living So That.." by Wendy Blight and it is an in-depth look at the verses in the Bible that contain the phrase 'so that'. Each chapter has a key verse that we are encouraged to hide in our hearts as well as other verses that are cross-referenced with the key theme of the chapter.  This past week we were looking at chapter 3, "Pray So That..." and we focused not only on prayer but specifically our prayer life.

One of the items that we could focus our blog hop on was how are we displaying our memory verses. But before I show you my creative display, I want to share with you what this verse means to me.

Hebrews 4:16 - Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

I love how this verse reminds me that I have direct access to my Father. I can go straight to him with confidence - I can get right up at His feet - at His throne!!!! And that allows me to receive mercy and grace in time of need.  When I don't know where else to run -- I run to my Father! When I feel like I am at the end of my rope, I know I can confidently sit at the feet of the throne of my God and He's going to shower me with grace and mercy.  When I am in the place of greatest need, I have no need to fear or worry or stress or grow anxious because all I have to do is draw close to my Father with full confidence in knowing He will be there to hold me and give me exactly what I need!!!!!

This verse also has special meaning to me because during a really tough time in my life I was at a Beth Moore conference and one of the worship songs we sang was Mercy Seat based on this verse.  Needless to say, it is now one of my favorites! Keep scrolling to the bottom to enjoy the song!

What a verse and with the week I have had I so needed this to be my focus verse!!!! So here is my creative display. I actually have 2 verses displayed - one is the memory verse and the second is one of the other verses that are referenced for the week that really spoke to my heart. You will see that I have also highlighted the words I want to really hone in on as well!!!

I decided to display my verses in the bathroom under my clock as I look at it several times each morning as I am getting dressed.  I thought what better way to stay calm in the mornings than by seeing and reading God's Word!

Here is a close-up of the displays:

Here are the materials I used to create them: 5x7 photo mats, retired CTMH paper & coordinating stickease, CTMH ribbon, CTMH flip-flaps

I simply took 2 5x7 photo mats (from the Dollar Tree), added some scrapbook paper and card stock for a mat. Then I used a flip-flap so that I can easily change the verses out each week.  I added some Stickease for embellishment & then used some ribbon to finish it off.

Here it is without the verses - I am also going to make a few of these for my office so I can keep current pictures of my family!!!!!

Fear of the Lord!

Proverbs 1:7 (ESV) "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction."

God is love. God is good. God is also committed to teaching us, training us and conforming us into the image of God. He loves us enough to be more concerned with our character than He is with our comfort.

When we truly fear the Lord, we will recognize that He is the Creator and we are the creatures. He is the Master and we are the servants. He is the Father and we are the children. He is the Teacher and we are the learners. When we fear the Lord, we will respect God and His Word. We will want to please Him by doing what He tells us to do in the Bible because we know He has our highest good in mind.

To put it simply, the fear of the Lord is a deep seated reverence for God that causes us to want to please Him at all costs. Oswald Chambers wrote, "The remarkable thing about fearing God is that, when you fear God, you fear nothing else; whereas, if you do not fear God, you fear everything else."

In order to get to this point where we can truly fear Him, we must know Him. We will only grow to know Him more intimately by spending time in His Word and talking to Him!!!  The best time for prayer isn't found. It's made. The average Christian spends very little time in prayer and then wonders why they have no faith and experience no power. If we are too busy to pray, we are too busy to experience the power of God. We can be very busy, but not necessarily productive because we lack faith. One of the main reasons we lack faith is that we don't pray. Consistent prayer builds consistent faith.

Come to Him in prayer with a sense of reverence and awe. Understand that He is God. He is holy. He is all-seeing, all-knowing and all-wise. God's love is unending and His mercy knows no bounds. God willingly sent His Son, Jesus, to bridge the gap between a perfect God and an imperfect people. He longs to hear your voice and is delighted when you pray.

He is Risen!!!!

Happy Easter. Today I want to share from my heart as to why the resurrection is necessary and why it is so important for us to celebrate the fact that our Savior is Risen!!!!

Death came into existence because of sin. In Genesis 3, we see death come into the picture through the sin of Adam & Eve.  We also see Cain killing his brother Abel and then throughout chapter 6 the genealogy is based on "and he died".  We see God set law into order as well as the requirement of sacrifices that require blood in order to get forgiveness of sin. All throughout the Bible we see death connected to sin. In Romans 6:23 we are told “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

God knew we were going to need redemption because our sin was going to bring about death. When God created us, death was never in the picture. Death did not come along until sin arrived on the scene.  And God in His great love for us, had a plan for our redemption. He knew that when the time was right He would send His son as a man to come to earth to be the final sacrifice for us. His blood would cover all of our sins — He would be the ultimate and final sacrifice!!!!

But the story does not stop at the cross. To fully understand the necessity & importance of the resurrection, we must realize that God had to turn His back on His only Son because at that time, Jesus was bearing every sin of every person from the beginning of time until He returns. So you see, God had no choice but to resurrect Jesus. For without the resurrection, God & His Son would forever be separated! Without the resurrection, death would not be conquered! And remember, God never intended for death to be in the picture nor did He ever intend to be eternally separated from His Son!

The death of Jesus gives us forgiveness of our sins through His blood, but it is His resurrection that gives us the hope & promise of eternal life!!!!

I pray that all of you can say that you have this promise of eternal life—that you have accepted and believe in the death, burial & resurrection of the one true Lord & Savior! Below is part of the lyrics to one of my favorite songs about the resurrection — Arise My Love by Newsong.

Sin, where are your shackles?

Death, where is your sting?
Hell; has been defeated.
The grave could not hold the king.

Arise, My love.
Arise, My love.
The grave no longer
has a hold on you
No more death's sting
No more suffering
Arise... Arise... Arise

Rejoice in knowing that Jesus is Alive!!!!!

It Truly is Good Friday!

Jesus knew what He was about to face - the rejection, shame, humiliation, persecution, torture, suffering, suffocation, death & separation from the Father. This caused such agony that His sweat was as drops of blood! Why did He do this? Why did He accept this cup from God? Why did He willingly go with those soldiers? He did all of this for you and for me. He endured excruciating mental and physical pain so that we could be redeemed - so that we could have forgiveness of our sins - so that we could have salvation! That's what this day - Good Friday is all about! It's good because of the goodness of our Savior!!!!!!!

It's Been Awhile......

I think the last time I actually sat down to create traditional layouts was in February 2013 at a retreat! I have been using Studio J to get caught up but I wanted to get my cutter and create!!! I knew I wanted to focus on my new grandson, Jase, first few days for these layouts and I already had in my mind what paper pack I wanted to use - Babycakes. Then I happened to find a workshop created by the amazing Pam Thorn.  I ordered it about a month ago along with the paper, supplies and photos I would need. Well, its been sitting on my table just waiting for me to dig in to it....

Spring break started today and although I had to work today and part of the day tomorrow, one of my goals this week is to complete (or at least get most of it done) this workshop. Well, I am very pleased to announce that I did get everything cut tonight. So now I can start working on putting the pages together and adding my pics and some journalling!

I have forgotten how much I enjoy using our how-to-books & workshops to cut and put layouts together. There's just something special about the feel of that paper in my hands!

Stay tuned for another post later this week for some of the finished pages......

Hosanna!

I love this time of year! I love the cool mornings and warm days! I love family gatherings! I love the excitement of the little ones when they find an egg that has been very carefully hidden! I love Spring Break! But most of all, I love Easter and what it means! Easter is a great reminder of what our Savior did for us  - not just His crucifixion but most of all His resurrection - for that is what brings us life! (Check back later in the week for a post that explains in detail the importance of the resurrection!)

In celebrating the Easter season the message in church this morning was about Palm Sunday (the Sunday before Christ was crucified.) I loved how this was explained this morning and God really spoke to my heart through the sermon today so I wanted to share some of this insight with you.

The message was based on Luke 19:28-48. Before reading any further, open your Bible or click on the reference to read the passage.

The Triumphal Entry - We can see several things from this passage that happens when Jesus arrives.

  • When Jesus arrives, there is always preparation! (v. 30-32)
  • When Jesus arrives, there is always celebration! (v. 36-38)
  • When Jesus arrives, there is always opposition! (v. 39)
  • When Jesus arrives, there will always be a witness! (v. 40)
  • When Jesus arrives, there is a cleansing! (v. 45-46)

We see all of these things taking place in these verses, but more importantly all of this also happens to us when Jesus arrives in our lives! Before we could ever enter into a personal relationship with Him, He prepares our heart! When we invite Him in and He arrives, there is a great celebration -- I can still remember the celebration that occurred within me the very moment I gave my heart to Christ! But I can also remember some of the opposition & the battles that Satan would throw my way. When Jesus arrived in my life, there were definitely some areas He had to clean up and He still works on cleaning me up on a daily basis! And from the very moment He arrived in me, I became His witness!

Palm Sunday is not just a time for us to remember the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, it is also a time for us to rejoice over the triumphal entry Jesus had in our own personal lives! And if for some reason none of this makes sense to you or you have never had the joy of experiencing the arrival of Christ in your life, please contact me! I would love to share more with you and pray with you!

Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna in the highest!
