A Time to Relax & Celebrate

After the PLC Conference (see previous post about this wonderful training) was over on Thursday my hubby took me on a 3 day getaway to the Bahamas to relax and celebrate our 12 year anniversary!!! We love cruises and as many of you know that is how we celebrate each of our children's high school graduation with a big family cruise. We'll after 4 high school graduations, 3 college graduations, 3 weddings, 2 grand babies, & new job responsibilities....we decided we needed to completely get away to relax and celebrate how blessed we truly are!!!

Thursday leaving Port Canaveral for the Bahamas....

Some of the best things about a cruise.....

And the very best part of the cruise....celebrating 12 amazing years with the love of my life!!!!!!

Yes I Am A Nerd!!!!

I have been in education for over 20 years and have always loved going to different trainings and workshops! I love knowledge --- and if that makes me a nerd then I am proud to be a nerd. This week I am in Orlando at the PLC @ Work Conference with my leadership team from my school.  I can honestly say that this has been one of the best conferences I have ever attended --- it's not an initiative, it's about what we are going to be doing everyday.  One of the phrases from today's session by Kenneth Williams, Unfold the Soul, is that we must integrate our mantra/mission, our vision and our commitments into the everyday structure of our school.  If we are doing something that does not match up with one of those three things, then why are we doing it?????

As a team we must decide the following:

  1. What do we believe about education?
  2. What do we want to achieve?
  3. Why do we go to work everyday?
  4. Why does our school exist?

Once we come to a consensus about these questions, then we can determine our true mission, vision and commitments - until this happens, we have no direction!!!! Honestly these questions can be applied to any area of your life. I think one of the issues we have in our society is we do not take the time to really think about why we do the things we do.  We get so caught up in going through the motions of everyday life, that we tend to forget about what we are striving for! I know for me one of my deep-seeded beliefs that led me to education is that ALL STUDENTS CAN LEARN and I need to remember to keep that as my focus in my every decision!

It aways amazes me at these conferences how much I learn and realize how far I am from being where I need to be.  But I know I am heading in the right direction and that is all that matters!!!!!!

Happy Father's Day

I am very blessed to have some truly amazing men in my life and to honor them today, I made some cards for them! Here are the cards that I quickly through together Saturday morning for my dad, husband & dad-in-law.

I used CTMH's new Timberline paper along with the Artise and A&P cricut cartridges for the "Happy Father's Day" on all three cards.  The other B&T paper is from a retired kit, Sasprilla.   And of course buttons and waxy flax are always a good combo for embellishing as is the Durable Studs on the last card!!!

I am still focusing on keeping cards very simple so I can get them created it in a reasonable amount of time.  I spent less than an hour on all three cards! I am getting better -- before I would work for 2 or 3 hours on just one card!!!!!

To begin ordering your very own supplies to start making quick & easy cardsvisit my website and click on the "Let's Celebrate Summer"online gathering link in the lower right corner!!!!  Anyone who places a $50 order on my website during the month of June, will receive a handmade card and a free embellishment!!!!!

TTT: Sunburst Cards

Tuesday's Techniques & Tips

So I have been seeing the sunburst design all over Pinterest and a couple of Facebook scrapbooking pages I follow.  I have been wanting to make some of them but had not had the time until last night.  My hubby and son were watching the NBA playoff game so I decided to give the sunburst technique a try.  Now keep in mind this was at 9:00 PM  and by 10:30 I had watched the video and made 3 cards!!!!! It is so easy and quick! I love this look and every card is unique!!!!

Here are my 3 cards I made using retired CTMH paper; however, most of the embellishments are current.

Clementine Paper with Designer Brads
(The "Thanks for Everything" is from the zip-strip on the top of one of the B&T papers)
Whoops-A-Daisy with Black Hemp & Metal Flowers
Dream Pop with Black Shimmer Tape

Here is a link to the video I used --- Sunburst Card Technique.

Tenley's First Scrapbooking Layout

Last Saturday we had the grand-babies for the afternoon.  We had a great time and made many memories (which I will scrapbook later) swimming, playing tea party, designing play-doh outfits and scrapbooking! Yes, Tenley & I made her first layout!!!!

She was very willing for me to help her with the flowers but then she wanted to get creative on her own.  I was finally able to talk her into using the green glitter as grass and then we made the sky & sun!  I am still not sure what she was doing in the middle of the page but I personally think it is the most beautiful layout ever!!!!! By the way, she did her name on her own (well, maybe I adjusted the letters a tad bit!) So for a 3 year-old, I think she did pretty good!!!!!!

Another Year Added to the Books....

Today was my 21st last day of school as an educator! 21 years and I can honestly say I still love what I do. Don't get me wrong there are days that I could pull my hair out and wonder what in the world I am doing, but I wouldn't trade what I do for anything - from being a teacher to a reading coach to an assistant principal and then this year a principal - I consider myself very blessed!

Today was a very exciting day for several reasons:

  • The most obvious -- it was the last day of school
  • The first year of a 'new' school - the 6th grade center
  • My first year as a principal is complete
  • We got our FCAT (state test) scores back today and we have huge improvements!!!!!
I have learned so much this year and I hope & pray that I made a difference in not only the lives of our students but also our faculty, staff, parents & community!

I am looking forward to having some downtime this summer but I am also very excited about the planning for next year! I love the summers  - I have Fridays off and we get to look at what worked and what didn't and plan for an even better year next year!

So here is to all of my fellow educators --- enjoy your summer and remember you make a difference everyday!!!!!
