It's An Oily Life - Everyday Oils

When I started thinking about using essential oils, I realized the best thing for me to do was to simply sign up with Young living so that I could get the Everyday Oils kit (along with a diffuser and some other supplies!)  The Everyday Oils Collection comes with 5 single oils and 6 oil blends (a combination of more than one single oil for added benefits). These are some of the most commonly used and most versatile oils which no home should be without! The collection includes 5 singles (Peppermint, Lemon, Lavender, Frankincense, and Melaleuca) and 5 blends (Joy, PanAway, Stress Away, Purification, and Thieves).  I am going to share with you some info on the singles today and will share info about the blends tomorrow.

First up is Peppermint

Our Peppermint is so potent and pure that ONE DROP delivers the equivalent of 26 cups of pure peppermint tea. It’s great for digestive issues as well as muscle soreness and discomfort and head discomfort. It opens up the airways so it is very effective on chest and nasal issues. Peppermint is also known for increasing alertness, energy, and clarity. University of Cincinnati found that inhaling peppermint oil increased mental accuracy by 28%. Peppermint can be used to help reduce a temperature, it also drives in other oils so you can layer it on last to increase the effectiveness.

Lemon is full of antioxidants which have been shown to improve digestive health as well as cellular health.

It’s great for skin issues, throat discomfort, ear and sinus concerns, mouth issues and it helps to drain the  lymphatic system. It is pH correcting (alkalizing), which is good because germs don’t do well in an alkaline environment. You can add a couple drops to your water daily for it’s alkalizing and wellness benefits. It also works great to dissolve residue, gum, oil, grease spots, and crayon.

Lavender is known in the essential oil world as “the swiss army knife” because it is so versatile.

Our therapeutic-grade lavender oil naturally has several hundred chemical components, which explains how it has so many uses. Lavender is very calming and relaxing, it’s great to diffuse in the evenings to promote a good night sleep or add to a hot bath to help unwind after a long day. It’s great for seasonal discomfort, especially when used with Lemon and Peppermint. You can swipe it on the inside of your cheek or nostrils, or apply anywhere you are experiencing seasonal discomfort. Lavender also works wonders on all types of skin issues including insect bites and stings, cuts, scrapes, and bruises, minor burns and sunburns and even scars.

Frankincense is a VERY valuable and sought after oil, in ancient and Biblical times it was actually more valued than gold. It is mentioned in one of the oldest known medical records called the Ebers Papyrus (dating from sixteenth century B.C.) with an ancient Egyptian list of 877 prescriptions and recipes. Young Living has a frankincense and myrrh tree farm in Oman.

Frankincense is considered the holy anointing oil in the Middle East, where it has been used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years. More recently, it has been used in European and American hospitals and is the subject of substantial research.

Other uses of Frankincense:
  • Frankincense is also a valuable ingredient in skin care products for aging and dry skin. The ancient Egyptians used it in rejuvenation face masks.
  • Why is Frankincense so helpful for emotions? Frankincense is high in sesquiterpenes. They act on the pineal gland, which is the gland considered the seat of emotions. Remember, research shows that when inhaling the pure constituents in these oils, can stimulate the olfactory receptors and activate regions in the brain’s limbic system associated with memory, emotion, and state of mind.
  • Frankincense has a visual tightening effect on the skin and may benefit older, more mature skin.
  • Can slow signs of aging on the skin.
  • When used on a regular basis topically and internally, can aid in maintaining normal cellular regeneration.
  • Frankincense trees grow out of polished marble rocks, without soil.
  • Frankincense is as versatile as Lavender
It’s also great for overall brain health as it helps not only with emotions but also with focus and concentration.

Melaleuca Alternifolia, otherwise known as Tea Tree, is highly regarded for it’s gentle germ killing powers.

It works beautifully for maintaining clear skin and can be very helpful on yeast and fungus. Melaleuca A. is also an excellent addition to laundry or homemade deodorant because of it’s deodorizing and cleansing properties. This oil is very gentle so it’s great to use with children and can help sooth owies and boo boo’s.
