CTMH Technique Blog Hop - Wacky for Watercolor

This month we are using our watercolors to feature a variety of techniques that make using watercolors on our artwork beautiful, fun and sometimes downright wacky!

There are 11 CTMH consultants in this hop showcasing many different projects. If you are here from Tammy Lubik's Blog, you are on the right path.  You can find a full list of participants on Melissa's Blog if you get lost along the way!

For my artwork this month I decided to make a card using a blotting technique that gives a tie dye look. To begin with a used my medium size CTMH watercolor brush to create a palette of color using purple, blue and green on my paper desk pad. I know it doesn't look very pretty right there.

Then I took a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of watercolor paper and placed in face down on this 'palette' of color like this.

Sorry I forgot to take a picture of this step. I used my craft dryer to speed the drying process up (it was pretty wet at this time).  Then I added "Hello" using the Thin Cuts, a piece of Swan Lake B&T for a background and then a card base. Finally, I added some bling with the clear sparkles.

Now hop on over to Melissa's Blog for another Wacky for Watercolor project!

CTMH Paper Blog Hop - Swan Lake

Welcome to the Heartfelt Sentiments Team Blog Hop for the month of October.  This month we are focusing on the beautiful Swan Lake paper pack.
If you are here from Melissa's Blog then you are on the right track.

For my creation this month I made a card that was inspired by Vicki Wizniuki I saw on Pinterest.  This card was a quick and easy creation but I think it turned beautifully!  I used the 'thanks' think cuts to make the sentiment.  Then added the silver shimmer tape as a final touch.

Now you can hop on over to Sheila's Blog for another spectacular Swan Lake creation!!!

Happy Hopping!

I Am So Much More....

I recently started the "You're Beautiful" devotional from Illustrated Faith and God used the first 2 days to speak some truth to my heart! It focused on Genesis 3:11 where God asks Adam who told them they were naked?

Let me back up - this was part of the conversation that God was having with Adam & Eve after they chose to listen to Satan and eat of the fruit from the tree God told them to leave alone! But you see what has happened, not only did Satan lie to them about the tree being okay to eat from, he continues to feed them lies by making them feel ashamed because they were naked.  God is asking them, "Who told you were naked?" God didn't tell them.  So it had to be Satan!

Satan feeds us all kind of garbage:

  • You're fat
  • You're ugly
  • You're no good
  • No one likes you
  • You can't do that
  • You're stupid
  • That was your fault
  • You are so unworthy
  • There is no way God will love you now....
And the lies just keep coming! And the more we listen to these lies, the more insecure we become and the more we doubt ourselves!

But listen to this --- we are none of those things! We are CHOSEN, we are LOVED, we are REDEEMED, we are BEAUTIFUL, we are PERFECTLY & WONDERFULLY MADE, we are ADORED, we are FORGIVEN, we are WORTHY, we are PRICELESS and oh so much more!

This is a tag I made using the stamp set from the Illustrated Faith "You're Beautiful" kit.

Here are some verses to remind you oh how very special you truly are!
  • Psalm 139:13-18
  • 1 Peter 2:9
  • Galatians 3:13
  • Luke 7:47
  • 2 Thessalonians 1: 5-12
  • 1 John 4:10

CTMH Technique Blog Hop - Flower Power

Welcome to the CTMH Technique Blog Hop for the month of September. This month we have 8 participants that are all showcasing projects that feature our brand new CTMH Flower Power Cricut cartridge!

If you are coming from Haley's Blog, then you are on the right track.

For my creation this month, I decided to make a birthday card using these two images from the cartridge.

After making adjustments this is what my project mat in Design Space looked like:

I chose to use the "Write" feature with a silver marker to write Happy Birthday using the Flower Power font. And here is my finished product:

I added some bling centers and some baker's twine for embellishing as a final touch! I love how this card turned out and it was a 'less than 30-minute' project!!!! Now that's what I call a winner!

Now hop on over to Melissa's blog for another amazing Flower Power creation! You can also find a full list of all the participants there.

Make sure you leave me some love with a comment before you leave this page! And feel free to browse my website to see this cartridge as well as many other fun & fabulous products.

CTMH Paper Blog Hop - Jeepers Creepers

Welcome to this month's Heartfelt Sentiments CTMH Paper Focus Blog Hop.  This month we are featuring the super fun paper pack - Jeepers Creepers.
At first look, it appears that this is only a Halloween theme kit. Yes it is going to make some super fun Halloween layouts but the colors are so bright, it can be used for many other things as well.

If you are here from Melissa R's Blog, then you are on the right track.

I decided to use it to make an all-occasion card featuring the following B&T from eh Jeepers Creepers paper pack (X7211B) Pansy circle, the Lagoon striped, the multi-color zig-zag and the Black polka-dot along with some Pansy & Whisper cardstock. I also used the Hello thin cuts (which is one of my new favorite tools!) For the embellishments, I used some of the black glitter stars that comes with the Jeepers Creepers Complements (X7211C).

I love these color combinations!!!!

Now hop on over to Anna R's Blog for another amazing and fun creation featuring Jeepers Creepers!

Don't forget to leave me a comment and you can always visit my website to order your very own Jeepers Creepers supplies.

Waking Up and Turning North

Over the last few weeks, I have been in a funk! I could sit here and give you 20 reasons as to why but they would all be excuses. Because the real reason is simply that I had started snoozing on God and had become complacent.  What frustrates me so much is that this is not the first time this has happened - thankfully, God doesn't keep a record so I am not going to either.  Wednesday was a very stressful and overwhelming day  - to the point all I wanted to do was go home, curl up in a ball and cry! Thursday was a bit better (at least I didn't feel like I was going to break down) and then Thursday night I was mindlessly scrolling through Facebook, and came across a post by Lysa TerKeurst.  It simply read, "Lord, unrush me!" When I read that I felt God calling my name and saying "Tonya, slow down and remember who I am and all that I have done for you! Don't forget where I have brought you from!"

You see, when I get like that it really comes down to one thing.  I get too busy for God as well feeling like I can do this - I am in control.  Yes I was still reading my morning devotion and spending some time in prayer, but I was also thinking about other things and rushing through my time with Him.  I was rushing through everything just to get through the day for the next day to start all over.  I was in overdrive but going nowhere.

So Friday morning, I slowed down and really spent time with God.  Not necessarily a longer amount of time but it was definitely a  more intimate time with Him and I prayed out loud (it helps me stay focused so that mind doesn't get so easily distracted.) What a sweet time with Jesus I had and let me tell you it was the best day I had had in several weeks!

I wanted to document this experience in my Art Bible. My mind immediately went to Deuteronomy 2:3 where God tells the Israelites that it is time to stop circling the same old mountain and turn north! They were going to have to turn north to move to the land God had promised them.  You see, the Israelites and I had something in common -- we kept forgetting all the amazing things God had done for us and had gotten comfortable where we were at - so comfortable that we kept dozing off! God had to get their attention - they needed their souls to be woken up and they needed to be told to stop going round and round in the same place because they were not getting anywhere! God knew that was exactly what I needed too!

Before we can move forward with God, we must be awake.  I love Ezekiel 37 where God breaths life into the dry bones and they stand up and come alive!

Oh Lord, breath your breathe of life on me, awake my soul, & resurrect these dry bones!

I am ready to stop spinning my wheels, turn north and move forward with YOU LORD wherever that takes me!

God is Sovereign

This afternoon as I was studying my SS lesson I was once again reminded of His sovereignty.  We have been studying 1 Samuel over the last 3 months and I have learned so much about God throughout this book.  To set the scene, we are now in 1 Samuel 26 and we have seen the Israelites want to be like everyone else so they requested a king.  God reminded them they they were HIS chosen people and were called to be different. He told them that they didn't need a king; however, they kept insisting and finally God told Samuel to tell them ok I will give you a king, but just remember this was your idea and not mine.  Well they got a king alright -- Saul.  Of course Saul ended up doing his own thing (if you want details, read 1 Samuel) and God had to choose a new king for Israel. He sent Samuel to the house of Jesse to anoint the next king.  The youngest of Jesse's sons (12-13 years old) was out in the field minding his own business (he was actually taking care of the sheep) when he was called to come in. God spoke to Samuel and told him that David was the one to be anointed as the next king of Israel.

There are many things that happen between then and where we are at in the study but let's just say that things have not gone smoothly for David.  After being anointed as king (keep in mind Saul was still king and would be for several years), David defended God's honor by killing Goliath, he served Saul faithfully, and he became very popular with the people.  He had God's hand on Him!

But all this made Saul crazy jealous and as a result Saul begins an irrational pursuit after David - Saul wanted David dead!  David is literally running for his life.  In 1 Samuel 24, we see David gets a perfect opportunity to kill Saul, but David spares his life instead.

Now in 1 Samuel 26, David once again has a chance to kill Saul (and by human thought, he should have every right to.) However, David says in 1 Samuel 26: 9-11 "But David said to Abishai, “Don’t kill Saul! No one can harm the Lord’s appointed king and still be innocent! 10 As surely as the Lord lives, the Lord himself will punish Saul. Maybe Saul will die naturally, or maybe he will go into battle and be killed. 11 But may the Lord keep me from harming his appointed king! Take the spear and water jug that are near Saul’s head. Then let’s go.”

Do you see this? David is on the run -- truly fearing for his life from a crazy insane king (others have seen this so its not a secret) and here is a chance to kill Saul.  But David realizes that it is not his place to do this.  He cannot take matters into his own hands - he decides instead to trust the sovereignty of God! David realizes that God's ways are better than His ways.

David extends grace to Saul just as Jesus extends grace to us.

How quick are we to take matters into our own lives instead of allowing God to handle it? How quick are we to want revenge when we feel betrayed? Yet, what we really need to do is extend grace to those who have hurt us and let God handle the rest!!!!

God is sovereign - His ways are always better!

My Latest Bible Journaling Entries

Over the last couple of weeks I have been able to do a little bit of Bible journaling. I so enjoy this form of worship - it's a perfect way to combine God's Word with some creativity.

Most of the time I choose a verse based on what I am needing to hear from God.  This first one here is a great reminder that on the day I was saved I was changed - redeemed - chosen - exalted - righteous - I am no longer defeated, guilty, shamed, hopeless -- I have been and continue to be changed! My name is based on who I am in Jesus!

This entry is based on one I saw at We Three Kings and is a line from a song by Rend Collective.  I love the visual of God's mercy pouring down on me like confetti!!! Oh how thankful i am for His mercy!!!!

This was a simple entry as a reminder of what faith is. One of my favorite chapters in the bible is Hebrews 11 - the hall of FAITH!!!

Last Sunday, our new pastor brought a message on genesis 3:9 and it spoke straight to my heart! We cannot hide from God  -- He always knows where we are at and He is constantly pursuing us.

Oh how I need to be reminded on a daily basis that my Lord is my rock, my stronghold, my shield, my refuge, my fortress!!!! He is always going to be there for me and will always be there to protect me and fight for me!

I love how God can speak so loudly to us with His Word - we just have to stop and listen!

CTMH Technique Blog Hop - Passionate About Pockets

I am excited that you have decided to join us on our CTMH Technique Blog Hop this month where we are focusing on "Pockets". These pockets could be our flip-flaps, pocket cards (Picture my Life cards) or any version of a pocket you could think of.

If you are here from Michelle's Blog, then you are on the right track.

I decided to use a variety of our Picture My Life cards and overlays.  I am still working on getting our Easter photos preserved and using these cards helped me get 4 pages completed on Saturday in about 2 hours.  I love how easy these are to use as well as how versatile!!!

For this first layout, I used the pocket cards and photos on a 12 x 12 cardstock to place in a standard page protector for the left side and used the pocket cards and photos on the right side in one of the pocket page protectors.  I am using the Calypso cards as well as the watercolor PML cards.

In the layout above, I used one of the black overlay cards that has the word 'Happy' on it to go over the picture n the middle of Big Daddy playing with Jase & Ten on the floating dock.

Here is a short video tutorial showing the watercolor cards:

For my second layout, I continued using the Calypso papers and again one side is in the pocket page protector and the other side is on a regular 12 x 12 layout.

In the above layout on the top left picture & bottom right one,  I again used one of the black overlays.  I love how these overlays adds an extra pop to some of the pictures.

I put together another short video to show you how these pages fit in my album and why I chose to combine a pocket layout with a traditional layout.

Now hop on over to Kirsten's Blog to see how passionate she is about pockets!!!

Let me know if you are interested in learning more about pocket cards and the many different ways they can be used.  You can browse our pocket scrapbooking supplies by clicking here.

Picture My Life Fun

Welcome to the July CTMH Technique Blog Hop featuring our Picture My Life cards or what many refer to as packet scrapbooking! This month we have 10 consultants participating and they will be featuring the PML cards in a variety of creative manners.

If you are here from Janna's Blog then you are on the right track!

For my project this month I created a 2 page layout using the PML cards that come in our paper packs.  I chose to use the Calypso sheet (this is what it looks like in the kit, then you just simply have to cut apart the cards):

So I used these cards along with some beach pictures to preserve some precious memories:

If I am honest, I wasn't crazy about the PML cards to begin with; however, the more I use them the more I love them! And what's even better is it makes scrapbooking fast & easy. I put these two pages together in less than 30 minutes! I also used a few sequins and some of the black overlay cards (the hearts and the Life is Good) to add some extra dimension to the pages!

Black overlay cards

Check out all of our pocket scrapbooking supplies by visiting my website.  Contact me if you have any questions.

Now hop on over to Melissa's Blog for another amazing Picture My Life creation.  You can also find the full list participants on her blog as well.
